Overview
This scenic route begins in Colombo, Sri Lanka’s bustling capital, before heading north to the ancient rock fortress of Sigiriya, a UNESCO World Heritage site rich in history and breathtaking views. From there, the journey continues to the east coast and the coastal city of Trincomalee, known for its pristine beaches, snorkeling spots, and cultural sites like the Koneswaram Temple.
Next, the route takes you south along the coastline to Pasikudah, a calm bay famous for its shallow, crystal-clear waters and luxury beach resorts. After relaxing by the sea, you’ll head further down the coast to Arugam Bay, a laid-back surf town popular with beach lovers and wave chasers.
The journey then moves inland through lush landscapes to Ella, a charming hill town surrounded by tea plantations, waterfalls, and scenic hikes like Little Adam’s Peak and the Nine Arches Bridge. From Ella, you’ll climb further into the central highlands to Nuwara Eliya, also known as “Little England” for its cool climate, colonial architecture, and scenic tea estates.
Finally, the route loops back to Colombo, completing a diverse and enriching circuit that showcases Sri Lanka’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and coastal charm.
